6 … 7

February 1, 2026 Leave a Comment

The kids are saying it.  The adults can’t understand why or what it means.  Here’s how Merriman Webster defines it:

“The phrase “6 7” is a nonsensical expression popular among teens, often used to describe something as “so-so” or as a punchline, but it essentially means nothing. It gained popularity from a viral rap song and is often used in a humorous context to get attention, similar to other internet trends. Overall, it is just a fun phrase without a specific meaning.“

I started a personal challenge last May of 2025 to read the entire bible in a year.  My guide gave me daily bible readings where the entire bible, from cover to cover, was divided into 365 readings – EXCEPT for the Psalms and Proverbs.  Those two books were each divided into 365 readings so that each day, I read some of the bible but also had a splash of Psalms and a Proverb reading.  Today’s Proverbs reading caught me off guard.  At first I chuckled at the reference to “6 … 7” but then I read the verses again and it just about slapped me in the face.  What do you think?

Proverbs 6:16-19

New International Version

16 There are six things the Lord hates,

seven that are detestable to him:

17         haughty eyes,

        a lying tongue,

        hands that shed innocent blood,

18         a heart that devises wicked schemes,

feet that are quick to rush into evil,

19         a false witness who pours out lies

and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

What if God is trying to tell us something?  Out of the mouths of babes, huh?  Read the verses again.  Haughty eyes?  People who look down on others?  Lying tongue?  Hands that shed innocent blood?  Can you name a few lives that have been taken lately?  People today who devise wicked schemes … people who rush into evil (protest) … false witness (biased reporting) … and a person who stirs up conflict in the community?

I don’t care which side of the aisle you are on.  I just felt a sucker punch as I read and reread these verses from Proverbs.  Wake up people.  I visualize our God looking down and shaking His head at us.  I truly believe that God wants us to see and realize the evil and sinful things that are happening.  There is a definite meaning to 6 7 … and it’s not so fun.
